How to Convert CGPA into Percentage – Mumbai University

How to convert CGPA into percentage for Mumbai University (MU): the official rule to check, steps, and what not to borrow.

Convert CGPA to percentage

By university rule • Official source linked with every result
No rule is applied until you select a university — we never guess a formula.

What CGPA do you need for your target percentage?

Reverse of the official rule above

Enter the percentage a form, employer or admission asks for, and this works backwards through the same official rule to the CGPA you need. If the rule cannot be reversed to one exact CGPA (banded rules), it says so instead of guessing.

If you are searching for how to convert CGPA into percentage Mumbai University, start with the change most pages have not caught up with: since 1 January 2026, Mumbai University no longer converts CGPA to percentage with a formula at all. This guide explains the current official process, what happened to the old formula, and how to get an official MU percentage.

What changed on 1 January 2026

The University of Mumbai's Board of Examination and Evaluation circular dated 1 January 2026 ↗ (No. Exam/Result/2026) repealed the earlier conversion circulars — Exam/Com/97 of 2018 and Exam/Result/157 of 2019 — with immediate effect. The old rule, (CGPA × 7.1) + 11 for general programmes (with a variant for engineering), is therefore history: do not use it, and be careful with any website or senior's note that still quotes it as current. That is why selecting Mumbai University in the calculator above shows this explanation instead of a number — there is no MU formula left to apply.

The current official MU process

Under the 2026 circular, conversion happens only if you ask for it. Your affiliated college calculates the actual percentage from your marks across all semesters (Sem-I to Sem-VI), using the semester mark sheets; the CGPA itself does not enter the calculation. The University then issues a conversion certificate based on that figure, but only on your explicit request — it is no longer printed automatically with the transcript. In practice: collect your semester mark sheets, apply to your college examination cell for the conversion, and keep the certificate with your final grade card.

What to do with your CGPA meanwhile

Your CGPA still matters for eligibility screens that ask for it directly, and you can build or check it with the Mumbai University SGPA to CGPA calculator. If a form insists on a percentage before your certificate arrives, state your CGPA and note “percentage conversion in process as per MU Circular of 1 Jan 2026” rather than inventing a figure. If your transcript was issued before 2026 and already carries a converted percentage, that printed figure remains the record for that transcript — the repeal changes future conversions, not your existing documents.

The mistake to avoid

The commonest MU error now is importing a formula — the repealed 7.1 rule, or another university's arithmetic such as subtracting 0.75 because a VTU page said so. None of those produce an MU percentage any more. Our general guide on how to convert CGPA into percentage explains how other universities' conversions work, and if MU publishes a new conversion document for your programme, send it through the Contact page and this guide will be updated with the official source.

Frequently asked questions

How to convert CGPA into percentage for Mumbai University?

Since 1 January 2026 there is no formula: your college calculates the actual percentage from your marks in all semesters (Sem-I to Sem-VI), and the University of Mumbai issues a conversion certificate only if you request one. Ask your college examination cell to compute it from your semester mark sheets.

What is the Mumbai University CGPA to percentage formula?

There is no current formula. MU's circular dated 1 January 2026 repealed the old conversion — (CGPA × 7.1) + 11 for general programmes, with an engineering variant — with immediate effect. Conversion is now marks-based and done by your college on request.

Can I use another university formula for MU results?

No. A formula borrowed from VTU, JNTUH or any other university can misstate a Mumbai University percentage. Only an MU-published rule should be applied to MU results.

Where does Mumbai University publish its conversion rule?

In the Board of Examination and Evaluation circular dated 1 January 2026 (No. Exam/Result/2026) on mu.ac.in, which replaced the 2018 and 2019 conversion circulars. It is linked from this page and shown when you select Mumbai University in the calculator.

My college gave me a percentage. Is it official?

If your college calculated it from your actual semester marks and the University issued (or will issue) the conversion certificate on your request, that is the official MU route since January 2026. A percentage produced by the old repealed formula, or by another university's formula, is not.
