How to Convert CGPA to Percentage
How to convert CGPA to percentage by university: select your university, apply its formula and check the result with examples.
Convert CGPA to percentage
By university rule • Official source linked with every resultKnowing how to convert CGPA to percentage really means knowing how to choose the right rule — the conversion itself takes seconds with the calculator above. This page focuses on that choice: which official formula applies to you, how to open its source document, and the one case (Mumbai University) where no formula exists any more.
Conversion is university-first, formula-second
A CGPA only becomes a percentage through a rule your university has published. VTU's 2015–2018 rule subtracts 0.75 before multiplying by 10, VTU's 2022 rule simply multiplies by 10, and JNTUH's rule subtracts 0.5. Because the formulas differ, converting CGPA to percentage is never a generic trick you can borrow from a classmate at another university. Select your university (and scheme) first, then let the formula follow.
Converting for VTU and JNTUH, worked fully
Take a CGPA of 8.50. VTU 2015–2018: (8.50 − 0.75) × 10 = 77.50%. VTU 2022 scheme: 8.50 × 10 = 85.00%. JNTUH: (8.50 − 0.5) × 10 = 80.00%. All three conversions are arithmetically correct — under different official rules. On this site every result card names the rule and links the official university document, so you can open the same regulations or circular and check that it covers your regulation year yourself.
When the calculator shows no number
That happens for exactly one university now: Mumbai. MU repealed formula-based conversion on 1 January 2026, so its percentage is calculated by your college from your actual semester marks, and the calculator explains that process with a link to Mumbai University's official 2026 circular. Every other university in the selector — VTU, JNTUH, KTU, SPPU, JNTUK, SRM, Calcutta and Calicut — converts with its own official rule: linear formulas for most, and for SPPU the banded equations of Circular 332/2020. A borrowed formula displayed without an official source would simply be a confident-looking error, which is why each rule here travels with its document.
After you convert
Keep the exact, unrounded conversion next to the rounded figure, note which rule produced it, and use your university-certified figure wherever an application demands an official one. Need the opposite direction? The guide on how to convert percentage to CGPA inverts only a rule that is actually loaded for your university. And if your CGPA itself still needs building from semesters, start with the SGPA to CGPA calculator.
Check your scale before you convert
Almost every example on this page assumes a 10-point CGPA, because that is what most Indian universities issue. If your CGPA is on a 4-point scale, or your grade card mixes scales between programmes, do not feed it into a 10-point rule and hope for the best. Convert only within the system your university uses, and where a cross-scale equivalence is genuinely required, take it from an official document rather than a ratio you worked out yourself.
