How KTU grading works
KTU uses a 10-point scale with SGPA per semester and CGPA cumulatively. Credits depend on your curriculum year and branch – theory, lab and project credits add to a semester total printed on your KTU grade card. The calculator's weighted mode multiplies each SGPA by that semester's credits, which mirrors how cumulative performance should be weighted when semester loads differ.
Worked example for KTU
Say you have Sem 3: 7.60 (22 credits), Sem 4: 8.10 (23 credits). Weighted CGPA = (7.60×22 + 8.10×23) / 45 = (167.2 + 186.3)/45 = 7.86. Simple average would be 7.85 – similar here, but larger gaps appear when one semester carries a heavy project. Percentage at KTU – the official rule
KTU's official conversion for B.Tech is simply Percentage = CGPA × 10. KTU changed the rule in 2023: University Order U.O.No.1584/2023/KTU ↗ amended the B.Tech 2019 Regulations (R6.21) from the older 10 × CGPA − 2.5 to CGPA × 10, and U.O.No.1867/2023/KTU ↗ extended CGPA × 10 to the 2015 scheme as well, for all students who graduated from the university. So a KTU CGPA of 7.86 converts to 78.60%. The CGPA to Percentage calculator applies this rule when you select KTU and links the official order with the result. If your programme is not B.Tech, confirm your own regulation's conversion note before using the figure officially.
Mistakes KTU students make
- Copying SGPA without credits when KTU grade cards do list credits.
- Rounding SGPA to one decimal before the final CGPA.
- Using a friend's percentage rule from another university.

Frequently asked questions
How to calculate CGPA for KTU?
Enter each semester SGPA and its credits, choose Weighted mode, then Calculate. The result shows CGPA and running CGPA after each semester.
Does KTU use weighted CGPA?
KTU awards credits per semester under its B.Tech regulations. When credits are available, weighted CGPA is the fairer measure.
What is the KTU CGPA to percentage formula?
Percentage = CGPA × 10 for B.Tech students. KTU amended its 2019 Regulations (R6.21) through University Order U.O.No.1584/2023/KTU, and extended the same CGPA × 10 conversion to the 2015 scheme through U.O.No.1867/2023/KTU, applying it to all graduates. The older 10 × CGPA − 2.5 rule no longer applies.
Can I mix KTU old and new schemes?
Avoid mixing different regulation years in one CGPA unless your college advises it – credit structures changed.
