Calculate your SGPA

Free • Offline ready • No data stored
SGPA = Σ(grade point × credits) ÷ Σcredits — one semester, subject by subject.
#Subject (optional)Grade pointCredits
1–15 subjects • Grade point up to 2 decimals • Credits up to 1 decimal

Use this free SGPA calculator to work out a single semester’s SGPA from your subjects — no semester history needed. Add a row for each subject, enter the grade point your university awarded and that subject’s credits, then calculate. You get the SGPA, the exact unrounded value, and a subject-by-subject table you can check against your grade card in under a minute.

The SGPA formula in plain language

SGPA = Σ(grade point × credits) / Σ(credits). Each subject contributes in proportion to its credits: a 4-credit theory subject moves your SGPA more than a 1-credit lab, which is exactly how a credit system is meant to behave. Worked example: Mathematics grade point 9 with 4 credits (36), Physics grade point 8 with 3 credits (24) and English grade point 10 with 2 credits (20). SGPA = (36 + 24 + 20) / 9 = 80 / 9 = 8.89. Enter those three subjects above and the breakdown table reproduces every step.

Grade points, letter grades and scales

This SGPA calculator accepts grade points directly on a 10-point scale, with a 4-point option at the top. It deliberately does not invent a letter-grade table: universities map letters such as O, A+, A or S to points differently, and the mapping can change by regulation year. Read the point printed beside each subject on your grade card and type that in. If your card shows only letters, find the mapping in your university’s regulations before calculating — guessing a mapping is the fastest way to a wrong SGPA.

SGPA first, then CGPA and percentage

SGPA covers one semester only. Once you have SGPAs for several semesters, the SGPA to CGPA calculator combines them (by simple or credit-weighted average) and shows the running CGPA after each semester. Percentage is a third, separate step governed by your university’s own notification: the CGPA to Percentage calculator applies the selected university’s official rule and links the university document it comes from.

Frequently asked questions

What does this SGPA calculator calculate?

It calculates one semester SGPA from your subjects: SGPA = sum of grade point multiplied by credits, divided by total credits for that semester.

What should I enter as grade point?

Enter the grade point your university awarded for that subject on a 10-point scale (or switch to the 4-point scale). Letter-to-point mapping differs by university, so copy the point from your grade card.

How many subjects can I add?

Add from 1 to 15 subject rows. Empty rows are ignored, and every subject needs a grade point and credits to be counted.

What is the difference between SGPA and CGPA?

SGPA describes a single semester. CGPA combines SGPAs across semesters — use our SGPA to CGPA calculator once you have semester SGPAs.

Can I convert this SGPA to a percentage here?

Not on this page, because percentage rules are university-specific. Use the CGPA to Percentage calculator and select your university to apply its official rule, linked to the university document it comes from.
